Mainland Run to Sussex:

This was a beautiful run through the Sussex countryside.
10 bikes joined us which included 5 pillions and although the weather started very overcast the day turned sunny but with very gusty winds. We all had a great day out enjoying a wide variety of roads, and, of course, a few muddy tracks, no ride would be the same without them!

We stopped at Midhurst The Teapot Cafe for coffee, which we have used a number of times visiting the area. Having searched along the way without success for a picnic spot we ended up at at Newhaven Harbour, which is a bomb site, but with a great outlook, we all took shelter against a concrete and rust outbuilding, otherwise the picnics would have ended up in Eastbourne.

We started the return trip along the cliff top coast road from Newhaven towards Brighton (very windy section of road). We then turned right towards the hills and Ditchling Beacon which has panoramic views of Sussex (similiar to Boxhill). We stopped for tea in Houghton on the B2130 just south of Storrington, a lovely location on the river Arun.

Great countyside, great company, all in all a memorable trip, to be repeated in the future. Thanks to Steve for the website pictures, and thanks to Michel & Jan, tail end charley. Returned on 6.30pm Ferry, 175 miles in total.
